![]() PARTNERS Michael Washburn, President, a 30-year veteran of the nonprofit field, has consulted with more than 200 local, national, and international organizations. A former corporate advertising executive and director of two nonprofit international affairs agencies, Mr. Washburn is known for his analytical skills, creative and strategic thinking, and his understanding of organizational culture. His specialties include board and staff development, major gifts and capital campaigns, strategic planning, and communications. He is a frequent presenter and teacher at conferences and workshops. He served on the board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Greater New York Chapter for eight years, completing his service as Vice President for Governance, Planning, and Public Policy. He is the president of the American Center of Photography. Other volunteer involvements include Governance Matters, Roulette Intermedium, and the Institute for Urban Design. He received his BA from Harvard and holds an MPA from Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. Nancy Carmichael, Vice President, is a leading financial analyst and management strategist, with 20 years experience in the nonprofit sector. Before becoming a consultant in 1991, Ms. Carmichael held senior executive positions at three arts institutions, acquiring a mastery of fundraising, finance, organization building, program audits and implementation.
She consults on capital and annual campaigns, major gift programs, and strategic plans. She trains and mentors entry-level development staff for positions as development associates and directors of development.She currently serves as a volunteer with the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Greater New York Chapter and the Teatown Lake Reservation. Ms. Carmichael received her BMus from the Manhattan School of Music and holds an MFA in Arts Administration from Columbia University. CORE STAFF Erika Byrnes, Senior Associate, has extensive experience in fundraising strategy and planning; staff, consultant, and volunteer management; grant writing; prospect research and cultivation; special events; board development; and visibility raising. She has led the fundraising departments at Women's Housing and Economic Development Corporation and Lawyers Alliance for New York. She was also the director of corporate, foundation, and grant fundraising for the NYU Stern School of Business. As a consultant, she served as interim development director for Civic Builders, a nonprofit real estate developer of charter schools. She holds a BA from Mt. Holyoke College and an MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business. Andrea Miskow, Staff Associate/Researcher. Before joining Washburn Partners, Ms. Miskow worked at the New York Forum for Child Health at the New York Academy of Medicine coordinating and researching grants and helping prepare Forum publications, including newsletters, policy reports, and journal articles. Prior to the Academy, she worked as a development assistant at the Literacy Assistance Center, researching, tracking and preparing grant proposals and reports, and coordinating special events. She holds a BA in Theatre and Political Science from Temple University. SENIOR CONSULTANTS In addition to the partners and core staff, Washburn Partners operates with an array of senior consultants, all accomplished veterans in their respective specialties. Here are brief profiles of the exceptional people who make up this uniquely diversified, high-level group. Sally-Ann Hard specializes in executive search. She recruits development, management, and program professionals for nonprofit organizations nationally. Her experience includes filling positions for human service and advocacy organizations, public and private colleges and universities, as well as arts and cultural organizations. Robert A. Jud, an internationally recognized authority in the field of management training and development, has taught a series of Washburn Partners workshops and advised on organizational restructurings. His expertise includes executive coaching, innovation and entrepreneurship, inter-cultural communications, performance and productivity enhancement, problem solving and risk taking, particularly for organizations in transition or change. For 17 years, he led an organizational development firm serving the Fortune 1000. Siobhan McDermott is a capital campaign specialist and expert in building volunteer and community leadership. She began her own consulting practice (Strategic Management Consulting) in 2000 after more than 12 years in development staff positions with the New York Shakespeare Festival, City Center Theater, and the Princess Grace Foundation-USA and as a consultant with Milano, Ruff & Associates. Michael Page Miller, a founder of Miller\Rollins, is a highly regarded trainer, fundraising consultant, and survey researcher. He is a lead faculty member with The Fund Raising School of the Center on Philanthropy, Indiana University. Jane B. O'Connell, for nearly 25 years, has served as Director of Development and Administrative Services and Treasurer at The Convent of the Sacred Heart, an independent girls' school in New York City. She now offers consulting services to nonprofits undertaking capital campaigns, long-range planning, and organization change programs. She is President of the Altman Foundation, a $240 million foundation, and serves on several nonprofit boards. Yvonne Carroll Presha, a consultant for nearly 15 years, earlier served as Vice President of Planning and Development at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. She has managed campaigns and annual fund programs, evaluated several Ford Foundation and Nathan Cummings Foundation projects, and teaches at New School University including its Institute on Faith-Based Community Building. An African-American, she consults with the Twenty-First Century Fund and the Nathan Cummings Foundation on African-American philanthropy and has conducted nationally recognized studies on diversity. Norma Rollins, a founder of Miller\Rollins, is experienced in management and fundraising for nonprofit organizations, building coalitions dedicated to changing public and legislative policy, and grantmaking.
